Stephen Curry and Jordan Spieth Inspire Baltimore Students with New State of the Art Weight Room

Students at Carver Vocational Technical High School in Baltimore received a major surprise on Monday when two global sports icons arrived on campus. Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry and professional golf star Jordan Spieth stood alongside Under Armour and community leaders to unveil a fully renovated weight room that promises to change the way student athletes train.

The event marked the 21st annual “Armour Day,” a tradition where Under Armour employees devote their time and resources to improving the city that serves as the company’s home base. This year’s signature project was the transformation of Carver’s outdated gym space. With the support of the Impact Fitness Foundation, the $250,000 investment turned the old facility into a modern 2,500 square foot training center equipped with the latest technology and equipment.

Walking through the doors, Curry explained why such an upgrade means more than just new machines. “You can tell just literally having this space where they can look forward to something every day, it matters,” said the four time NBA champion, who watched students’ reactions as they explored the new facility. Spieth, a three time major winner on the PGA Tour, echoed the sentiment. “They were stoked,” he said. “It looks like they’re going to use it and it’s going to be really good for the school.”

The visit by Curry and Spieth was only one part of a citywide effort. On the same day, Under Armour volunteers spread out to four additional schools across Baltimore, including REACH/Lake Clifton, ACCE, City Neighbors, and Reginald F. Lewis. At each location, volunteers worked on facility upgrades and student engagement, reinforcing the message that young athletes deserve both investment and encouragement.

The spirit of Armour Day reaches far beyond the walls of a single gym. Its mission is to help young people realize their potential while connecting them with role models who embody discipline and perseverance. Curry reflected on the power of those moments. “One interaction, one smile, one handshake, one picture, whatever it is, could keep a kid motivated in the sense of them understanding that they’re good enough, that they’re talented,” he said.

Spieth added his perspective, noting that every student should feel valued. “They should feel loved, they should feel supported, and hopefully, inspired to go put in that work and just get better as humans,” he remarked.

The new Carver gym has quickly become a symbol of possibility. It is a space where students can build strength and discipline, but it also represents a community that believes in them. The impact, according to Curry, will echo long after the event. “The kids will be able to tell this story for a long time, and hopefully that goes a long way,” he said.

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott expressed gratitude for the company’s consistent presence in the city. “Under Armour really is of Baltimore,” he said. “They are our strongest partner, especially when it comes to dealing with our youth and student athletes.”

For the students who shook hands with champions and stepped into a world class weight room, the day will be remembered not just as an unveiling, but as a moment that connected dreams with reality.
