Anthony Edwards Cleared for On Court Activity as Timberwolves Star Nears Return from Hamstring Injury

Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards is making steady progress in his recovery and has been cleared to resume on court activities, marking an important step in his return from a right hamstring strain. While the three time All Star has not yet been cleared for full game action, the update signals encouraging momentum for both Edwards and the Timberwolves.

Edwards, who sustained the injury during Minnesota’s home opener on October 26 against the Indiana Pacers, will remain out for the team’s upcoming game against the Brooklyn Nets on Monday. The Timberwolves confirmed that he continues to advance through his rehabilitation plan, with his status to be re evaluated later this week.

Following the matchup in Brooklyn, Minnesota will travel to New York on Wednesday before returning home to face Utah on Friday. The team then begins a back to back road stretch with games in Sacramento on Sunday and Utah the following Monday.

The 24 year old guard first experienced tightness in his right hamstring just over three minutes into the October 26 game. After driving to the basket and converting a tough layup through contact, Edwards appeared to grab the back of his leg as play continued. The Pacers called a timeout shortly after, and Bones Hyland substituted in for him. An MRI later confirmed a right hamstring strain, leading to a short term absence from the lineup.

This setback has kept Edwards sidelined for one week, marking his longest stretch of missed games in four seasons. Known for his durability, the explosive scorer played 72 of 82 games during the 2021 to 2022 season and has rarely been away from the court for extended periods.

Before the injury, Edwards had been in excellent form to start the 2025 to 2026 campaign. Through four appearances, he averaged 25.7 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists per game while shooting an impressive 51.9 percent from the field and 47.4 percent from three point range. His hot start positioned him as one of the early leaders in the Western Conference for scoring consistency.

The Timberwolves remain cautious, emphasizing a gradual return to avoid any risk of re aggravation. Allowing Edwards to resume contact drills is viewed as a major milestone, showing that his rehabilitation is on track. His teammates and coaching staff have expressed optimism that his full return is approaching soon.

As Minnesota navigates its upcoming schedule without him, the team will rely on collective scoring from its supporting cast to fill the void. Still, there is no question that the Timberwolves’ ceiling rises significantly when their dynamic young star is healthy and on the floor.

Anthony Edwards’ recovery progress offers hope that his return could come in the near future, giving Minnesota a much needed boost as they aim to maintain their early season rhythm and continue their push toward the top of the Western Conference.
