For months, the entire basketball world has been watching Dallas Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg completely tear up the league. Now, he has officially etched his name into the record books alongside the greatest scorer in the history of the sport.
During Thursday night’s clash against the Orlando Magic, the 19-year-old phenom reached an unbelievable career milestone. He is no longer just a rising star; he is officially putting up numbers that rival the legends of the game.
Here is a breakdown of Flagg’s massive achievement and the untouchable company he just joined.
The 1,000-Point Milestone
Going into Thursday’s game, Flagg needed just one basket to reach 1,000 career points, and he secured the milestone in his 50th career NBA game. By hitting this mark, Flagg officially became the second-youngest player in NBA history to reach 1,000 career points.
Just how young is he? He achieved this historic feat at exactly 19 years and 74 days old.
There is only one player in the entire history of the NBA who reached the 1,000-point club at a younger age: LeBron James. The legendary forward hit the exact same milestone during his rookie season at 19 years and 41 days old.
1st: LeBron James (19 years, 41 days)
2nd: Cooper Flagg (19 years, 74 days)
Every other elite scorer the league has ever produced—including Kevin Durant, Kobe Bryant, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar—was older than Flagg when they hit 1,000 points.
Elite All-Around Company
The scoring record is jaw-dropping on its own, but Flagg is proving to be much more than just a bucket-getter.
By hitting 1,000 points, Flagg also became just the ninth player in NBA history to record at least 1,000 points, 300 rebounds, and 200 assists within his first 50 games. When you look at players who have done that since the 1976-77 merger, the list shrinks to just three names: Michael Jordan, Luka Dončić, and Cooper Flagg.
The Rookie of the Year Race Heats Up
Flagg achieved this milestone in his very first game back from an eight-game absence due to a left midfoot sprain. Shaking off the rust, he finished the night with a stat line of 18 points, five rebounds, six assists, and four blocks in 26 minutes of action.
With the 2026 Rookie of the Year race still incredibly tight, putting his name right next to LeBron James and Michael Jordan adds a massive layer to Flagg’s resume.
