Eighth Straight Loss: Is Dallas Ruining Cooper Flagg?

Things are getting seriously ugly in Dallas.

If you thought the Mavericks hitting a rough patch was just a minor slump, it’s time to hit the panic button. On Tuesday night, Dallas suffered a brutal 124-112 defeat at the hands of the red-hot Atlanta Hawks, officially marking their eighth consecutive loss—their longest losing streak since the 2016-17 season.

And the biggest storyline of this massive collapse? The frustrating situation surrounding their highly touted rookie sensation, Cooper Flagg.

A Rough Night for the Rookie

The Mavericks are in full-scale tank mode, trying to rebuild their entire franchise around the 19-year-old phenom. But right now, the growing pains are starting to look like a nightmare. Guarded heavily all night by Atlanta’s defensive stopper Dyson Daniels, Flagg struggled to find his offensive rhythm. He was held to just 14 points on a rocky 6-of-16 shooting night.

To his credit, Flagg still stuffed the stat sheet, hustling for 12 rebounds and dishing out 5 assists. But it’s becoming crystal clear: the rookie is carrying a massive weight on his shoulders, and opposing teams are throwing the kitchen sink at him every single night.

The Heartbreaking Collapse

What makes this loss even more painful is that Dallas actually showed some fight. After trailing by 18 points, a furious 20-6 run in the third quarter gave Mavericks fans a glimmer of hope. Klay Thompson caught fire off the bench, dropping 21 points and sinking five huge 3-pointers. By the fourth quarter, the game was deadlocked at 97-97.

But just when it looked like Dallas might finally snap the dreaded streak, the Hawks slammed the door shut. Jalen Johnson exploded for 13 of his 27 points in the final frame, and Nickeil Alexander-Walker (who finished with 29 points) hit back-to-back daggers from deep to put the Mavericks to sleep.

Rock Bottom?

While the Hawks celebrate their seventh straight win and a serious Eastern Conference playoff push, the vibes in Dallas couldn’t be worse. Even the Atlanta crowd poured salt in the wound, ruthlessly chanting “Who are you?” at the rebuilding Mavs roster.

With 18 losses in their last 20 games, the Mavericks are officially in a free-fall.

What do you think, basketball fans? Is this brutal losing streak going to hurt Cooper Flagg’s confidence, or is this just the painful reality of a necessary rebuild?
