FX Officially Confirms ‘The Bear’ Will End With Season 5, Sets June 25 Premiere Date

The kitchen is closing. After four acclaimed seasons that transformed television drama and upended Emmy categories, FX has officially confirmed that The Bear will end with its fifth and upcoming season. The announcement came May 6, 2026 — one day after the network surprised fans with an unannounced prequel episode — and marks the formal conclusion of one of the most decorated series in recent television history.

The fifth and final season will debut June 25 at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT on FX and Hulu, as well as internationally on Disney+, per the studio. All eight episodes will be available to stream at debut. The simultaneous full-season drop continues the show’s established release tradition, allowing viewers to consume the finale arc on their own terms from day one.

The fifth and final season of The Bear picks up the morning after Sydney (Ayo Edebiri), Richie, and Natalie “Sugar” (Abby Elliott) discover that Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) has quit the food industry, leaving the restaurant to them. With no money, the threat of a sale and a torrential storm in their way, the new partners must band together with the rest of the team to achieve one last service, hoping they’ll finally earn a Michelin star. Ultimately, they learn that what makes a restaurant “perfect” might not be the food but the people.

The announcement arrived 24 hours after a characteristically unexpected move from the series. FX dropped a surprise prequel episode of The Bear on Hulu titled “Gary” — a flashback following cousins Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) and Mikey (Jon Bernthal) on a work trip to Gary, Indiana. The stars of the episode also co-wrote it, and series creator Christopher Storer directed. The surprise “Gary” episode will be submitted at the 2026 Emmys by FX and Hulu in key categories.

The finale news had been quietly building for months before FX made it official. There was no official indication that The Bear was going to conclude this year until Jamie Lee Curtis, who plays Carmy’s mother Donna Berzatto, let the news slip on Instagram in February. Her post, which read “FINISHED STRONG!” and described completing the story of “this extraordinary family,” set off immediate speculation. Weeks later, she spoke to the press about it on the red carpet for the premiere of her Prime Video series Scarpetta, telling Access Hollywood: “Everybody’s confirmed the show is ending! I don’t understand why that’s such a — unless I’m going to get a call from all the people saying, ‘You just told.'” FX declined to comment on the matter at that time.

The full cast of The Bear is returning for the final season, including Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Abby Elliott, along with Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, Matty Matheson, Ricky Staffieri, Oliver Platt, Will Poulter, and Jamie Lee Curtis.

The Bear has been an awards magnet since its first season, winning 21 Emmy Awards and 49 nominations, including Best Comedy Series in 2023 and Best Actor for Jeremy Allen White in 2023 and 2024, along with five Golden Globes and 15 nominations. Recognition has also come from the Critics Choice Awards, the Writers Guild, the Directors Guild, the Producers Guild, AFI, and more. Created by Christopher Storer, The Bear first debuted in 2022 and became a word-of-mouth sensation. The first season won 10 Emmys, including Best Comedy Series, and cemented White as a leading man.

Season 4 will be competing in the current Emmys cycle, and Season 5 will be eligible in 2027. The show’s awards momentum has faced scrutiny in recent cycles, with ongoing debate over its placement in the comedy category rather than drama — a conversation that the final season is unlikely to resolve but certain to reignite.

Every season of the series has been released in late June since the show’s premiere on June 23, 2022. Season 5’s June 25 debut maintains that tradition precisely, giving the final run of episodes the same summer launch window that helped turn The Bear into a cultural moment four consecutive times.

For a series that built its reputation on pressure, chaos, and the relentless pursuit of excellence — in the kitchen and in the writers’ room — the final service is now dated. The question that remains is whether the Berzatto family, and the restaurant they fought so hard to save, will finally get the star they deserve.
