If you are a Millennial or Gen Z who grew up in the early 2000s, stop whatever you are doing. The queen of Y2K, Lizzie McGuire herself, just sat down with Alex Cooper on the legendary Call Her Daddy podcast, and she did not hold back.
Hilary Duff spilled significant tea, addressing not only the recent viral “toxic mom group” saga involving High School Musical star Ashley Tisdale but also finally confirming decades-old rumors about her legendary teenage beef with Lindsay Lohan.
Here are the biggest, messtiest bombshells from the interview that everyone is talking about.
🚨 The Toxic Mom Group: Hilary’s Side
Earlier this year, the internet was set ablaze when Ashley Tisdale published a personal essay for The Cut titled “Breaking Up With My Toxic Mom Group.” While Ashley didn’t name names, amateur sleuths quickly pieced together that the group likely included Duff, Mandy Moore, and Meghan Trainor.
For weeks, Hilary stayed silent, but she finally set the record straight on Call Her Daddy. Hilary’s reaction? She was “really sad.”
“I honestly felt really sad,” Hilary told Alex Cooper. “I was pretty, pretty taken aback and felt just sad… It sucks to read something that’s not true, and it sucks on behalf of six women and all of their lives.”
Hilary didn’t just express sadness; she questioned the timing of Ashley’s article, which dropped right around Hilary’s massive resurgence in music. “The timing felt not great and I felt used,” Hilary admitted, suggesting the drama was calculated for traffic.
Hilary also addressed her husband Matthew Koma’s hilarious, chaotic Instagram parody of Ashley’s essay. While she didn’t approve it, she admitted, “Everything he does makes me laugh.”
👀 The Lindsay Lohan Feud: “My Childhood Nemesis”
For 20 years, we have wondered: Did Hilary actually gatecrash the Freaky Friday premiere in 2003 to make Lindsay angry?
The answer is “absolutely yes.”
Hilary confirmed the long-standing tabloid rumor, calling Lindsay her “childhood nemesis.” She revealed that her A Cinderella Story co-star Chad Michael Murray (who was also in Freaky Friday) invited her, knowing it would cause drama.
“I think absolutely yes. I was a teenager,” Hilary laughed. “I mean, that was, like, my childhood nemesis. I’m sure my publicist will be like, what the f*** are you doing? But now it’s so many years later. Like, who cares? It does not matter.”
She confirmed the root of the beef was, as long suspected, overlapping relationships with the late Aaron Carter. “I mean if you’re, like, Lindsay Lohan or me, he’s, like, probably dating both of us,” she told Cooper.
Thankfully, the two Y2K icons have long since resolved their differences. Hilary revealed they ran into each other at a club years ago, where Lindsay approached her, asked “Are we good?”, and they proceeded to take shots together. “It was amazing,” Hilary said.
