Hoopers vs. The Media: Dwyane Wade Goes OFF on “Idiotic” Kobe Bryant Ranking

The divide between “Hoopers” and “Analytics” has never been wider, and Dwyane Wade just drew a line in the sand.

In a recent podcast appearance that is currently taking over NBA social media, the Miami Heat legend unleashed a fiery defense of Kobe Bryant, ripping into a Bleacher Report all-time list that ranked the Black Mamba at No. 11—outside the Top 10 entirely.

For Wade, the ranking wasn’t just wrong; it was disrespectful to the game itself.

“Ask Us Hoopers”

Wade’s argument boils down to a simple concept: Peer Review. While analysts and advanced stats might push players like Larry Bird or Steph Curry ahead of Kobe due to efficiency, the guys who actually had to guard No. 24 see it differently.

“If you want to ask us hoopers who played against Kob, all of us are going to talk Top 3,” Wade said passionately. “We all gonna talk Top 3 if you played against Mamba.”

He continued, questioning the credibility of writers who never stepped on the hardwood:

“But someone’s opinion that’s never played against Kobe… having him at 11? Why am I up in arms about something like that?”

The “Idiot” Comment

Wade didn’t stop at his own opinion. He recalled how Kobe himself used to react to these types of lists during his playing days. According to Wade, Bryant didn’t lose sleep over blog rankings.

“Kobe addressed it like, ‘Who are these idiots?'” Wade laughed. “Like, ‘Why would I listen to these idiots?'”

The Consensus Among Legends

Wade isn’t on an island here. Shaquille O’Neal also went viral recently for calling Kobe’s exclusion from the Top 10 “criminal”. The pattern is clear: ex-players who felt the fear of guarding Kobe almost universally rank him in their Top 5 (often Top 2 or 3), while media rankings tend to penalize him for field goal percentage.

For Wade, the “Hooper’s Code” is the only ranking that matters. And by that metric, Kobe Bryant isn’t 11th. He is standing on the podium.
