The battle for the “Face of the NBA” has officially begun, and Hall of Famer Reggie Miller just picked a side that has San Antonio Spurs fans furious.
During a heated debate on The Dan Patrick Show, Miller argued that Cooper Flagg, not Victor Wembanyama, is the true heir to the LeBron James throne. While Patrick argued that Wembanyama’s “alien” skillset makes him the default choice, Miller pointed to a critical factor: Availability.
“I need more Wemby. I need a guy that’s going to give me 32 to 38 minutes and play 60 to 72 games,” Miller said. “This young man [Flagg] is going to be the face of our game in another three to five years.”
The debate comes just days after Flagg faced Wembanyama in a Texas showdown where the rookie admitted he was “nervous” to face the 7’4″ phenomenon for the first time. While Wemby dropped 40 points in that contest, Flagg’s recent durability and all-around offensive package (averaging 20.4 PPG, 6.6 RPG, 4.2 APG) have convinced some analysts that his game translates better to carrying the daily load of a franchise superstar.
Miller didn’t stop there, claiming Flagg is a “better player when you watch him in person” and praising the 19-year-old for surviving Jason Kidd’s “point guard experiment” earlier in the season.
