Netflix Greenlights Kevin Durant Docuseries Tracing His Rise from Maryland to NBA Legend

Netflix is producing a new multi-part documentary series following the life and career of NBA superstar Kevin Durant. The project, directed by Emmy Award winners Michael D. Ratner and Robert Alexander, began filming during the 2023–24 NBA season and continues through the current 2025–26 campaign, offering an unprecedented look at Durant’s evolution both on and off the court.

The series will chronicle every major chapter of Durant’s story, beginning with his childhood in Prince George’s County, Maryland, a community on the eastern edge of Washington, D.C., where his early love for basketball began to take shape. It will then move through his college years at the University of Texas, where he made history during the 2006–07 season as the first freshman ever named Consensus National Player of the Year.

From there, the story follows Durant’s path into the NBA, capturing his debut with the Seattle SuperSonics, his rise to stardom with the Oklahoma City Thunder, and his championship success with the Golden State Warriors. The series will also explore his later years with the Brooklyn Nets and his current tenure with the Houston Rockets, showing the full scope of his influence across multiple teams and eras.

Durant’s international legacy will be given special attention as well, highlighting his remarkable achievements with Team USA, where he earned multiple Olympic gold medals and solidified his reputation as one of basketball’s most dominant scorers on the global stage.

Behind the scenes, the production is a collaboration between Netflix, OBB Pictures, and Durant’s own media company, Boardroom. It features never-before-seen footage, intimate interviews, and candid reflections from Durant himself, along with insights from his family, coaches, and teammates who witnessed his journey firsthand.

Adding a unique community dimension, OBB Cares and the Durant Family Foundation are partnering to provide hands-on opportunities for College Track scholars from the Durant Center to serve as production assistants on the series. This initiative aligns with Durant’s long-standing commitment to empowering young people through education and mentorship.

Though Netflix has not yet announced a release date, anticipation is already building. The series promises to go beyond the statistics and highlights, delving into the moments of adversity, triumph, and transformation that have defined Kevin Durant’s career. From his humble beginnings to his standing as one of basketball’s most complex and accomplished figures, the documentary seeks to capture the full arc of a life shaped by ambition, talent, and relentless drive.
