That Cost HOW MUCH? Collin Sexton Fined $35K for Giving the Rim the Middle Finger

By NBA Wire • February 11, 2026

Welcome to Chicago, Collin Sexton.

The NBA has officially fined the Bulls guard $35,000 for making an “inappropriate gesture” on the court during Monday night’s 123-115 loss to the Brooklyn Nets.

And when we say “inappropriate gesture,” we don’t mean a subtle throat slash or a “big balls” dance. We mean he literally flipped off the basketball hoop.

The Moment 🖕

The incident occurred with 1:31 remaining in the third quarter. Sexton, who was at the free-throw line, missed his first attempt. Clearly frustrated, he knocked down the second one—but he wasn’t done.

As he backpedaled on defense, cameras caught Sexton staring directly at the rim and throwing up the middle finger at it.

Apparently, the rim had been talking trash all night?

The Context 📉

Sexton is still fresh to the Bulls roster, having been acquired recently (reportedly in a deal involving Coby White). In just his second game with the team, he put up solid numbers:

  • 21 Points

  • 5 Rebounds

  • 32 Minutes

However, the Bulls are currently in a tailspin, having lost five straight games. Tensions are high, and clearly, the rim isn’t making things any easier.

The Verdict 🔨

The league office, led by Joe Dumars, wasted no time handing down the punishment today. While $35,000 is pocket change for an NBA star, it’s a pricey way to vent frustration at an inanimate object.

Sexton will look to bounce back (and keep his fingers to himself) when the Bulls try to snap their losing streak later this week.
