The nominations for the 79th Annual Tony Awards were announced on the morning of Tuesday, May 5, 2026, in a live ceremony hosted by Tony nominee Uzo Aduba and Tony winner Darren Criss. The announcement caps Broadway’s 2025–26 season, which ran from April 28, 2025 through April 26, 2026, and encompassed 30 eligible productions across new musicals, new plays, revivals of musicals, and revivals of plays.
Leading all productions are two new musicals: The Lost Boys and Schmigadoon!, each earning 12 nominations, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Original Score. Their totals make both shows the most-nominated productions of the season. Ragtime, produced by Lincoln Center Theater, follows closely with 11 nominations, including Best Revival of a Musical, while Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman is the season’s most-nominated play with 9 nominations. Cats: The Jellicle Ball and Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show each received 9 nominations as well.
In the Best Musical category, The Lost Boys and Schmigadoon! will compete alongside Titanique and Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York). The Best Play category features four original works: The Balusters by David Lindsay-Abaire, Giant by Mark Rosenblatt, Liberation by Bess Wohl, and Little Bear Ridge Road by Samuel D. Hunter. Notably, Liberation was recently named the 2026 Pulitzer Prize for Drama winner, marking Bess Wohl’s first Pulitzer.
In the Best Revival of a Musical category, Cats: The Jellicle Ball, Ragtime, and Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show will vie for the prize. For Best Revival of a Play, the nominated productions are Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman, Becky Shaw, Every Brilliant Thing, Fallen Angels, and Oedipus.
The acting categories produced several notable nominations. In Best Actor in a Play, the nominees are Nicholas Christopher (Chess), Luke Evans (The Rocky Horror Show), Joshua Henry (Ragtime), Sam Tutty (Two Strangers), and Brandon Uranowitz (Ragtime). The Best Actor in a Play category features Nathan Lane (Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman), John Lithgow (Giant), Daniel Radcliffe (Every Brilliant Thing), Mark Strong (Oedipus), and Will Harrison (Punch). Rose Byrne, nominated for Fallen Angels, achieved a rare distinction by earning both an Oscar nomination and a Tony nomination in the same calendar year.
The 79th Tony Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Grammy winner Pink will host the broadcast, which airs live on CBS and streams on Paramount+ for Premium subscribers. Special Tony Awards for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre will be presented to André Bishop, Jules Fisher, and James Lapine. Mary-Mitchell Campbell will receive the Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award, and The League of Resident Theatres (LORT) will receive a Special Tony Award. Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre will also go to the 1/52 Project, Jake Bell, Kenn Lubin, and Loren Plotkin.
